The Day We Did Not Pick Apples (A Reprise)

(PICTURE A BIG APPLE PHOTO. IT GOES HERE)

We head out this morning in perfect time (note: happy driving music),
even making all of the stoplights in Hooterville, puttering along in
that pretty little red sports car I've been driving about.

(A REALLY CUTE PIC OF CAR WOULD BE HERE)

A beautiful day, and as I'm heading out to Podunktown I look down at
Steven's sock feet (happy driving music stops here) and ask, "Where
are your shoes." A deer in the headlight look later, and we turn
around and go back to Hooterville.

(15 minutes later....)

On the road again (happy driving music) We take lunch to Royce and
Larry at the shop, they are on the way in Podunktown, and I ask, "Now,
you know where Charlie's Apples is located right?"

"OH YEAH, for SURE," is the confident answer, "It's a right on
Sportman's Club and you'll see it right on
your right."

Right.

All-right-y then, off we go and only 20 minutes late ~ not bad for a
homeschooler. So we drive and drive and drive... and uh, drive...And
there is an apple orchard on the right and we go into the driveway
and it is a person's house. Not Charlies. So we back out and go right
again and drive more... and uh-oh,..what's this? An engine light on
in the pretty little red sports car I've been driving about? Hmmmm....

(No more happy driving music. At all.)

I call the fellas at the shop and whoops, oh no, I have to dial "1"
and the "area code" because I'm now officially roaming. So I'm
shifting, driving and dialing and then, dialing again, and Royce
goes, "Hello?" I'm like, "Ok I'm at The f***ing Golfcourse. How much
further?"

"OHHH, you went WAY too FAR. Turn around and come back..."

"Ok but my engine light is on."

"Is it doing anything funny?"

"No."

"You'll be fine."

(Turning around, driving, driving, driving back.....)

ok, brrring, brrring.

"Hello?"

Royce goes, "I just looked it up. You want to turn around again and
head back to
where you were, it's PAST The Golfcourse."

"Ok, but my engine light is still on."

"Is it doing anything funny?"

"No."

(Ok turning around... Again...}

(Driving, driving, driving...)

(And then ~ POP, ....stall...... stop..)

The pretty red sports car is officially doing something funny. And
lo, where am I? I'll be durned, but back in the driveway of the
apple orchard where I turned around the first time. Now, we're here
to stay for a bit. Steven gets out and picks one apple and I take a
photo of him in front of the tree. We are calling it, "The Day We Did
Not Pick Apples."

I love funny posts about not-so-funny ocurrences. It's good to know that he's unable to be unhappy for longer than five minutes.

Steven said, "I don't like that story," when I started to read it to him today. I was like, "Why not?" He said, "It's too sad, I wanted to pick apples."
