If We Could Live Here by Kathleen Flenniken

The plane is full. I sit in 20B.
Your profile in 19E
shines like a crescent moon
The plane starts to taxi.
We are split by an aisle, a soon-to-be
fracture in the fuselage.
You turn to your seatmate
and by your gestures I recognize
your story about packing.
I am the recorder
of our last five minutes alive,
of unlikely water landings
and the gush,
of surrender to the enemy.
Love is large and simple
in the limbic system
when the rest of me
is stunned by fear.
in the moment between dialing
and ringing, or when I wake
from an immaculate sleep.
If we could live here -
engines screaming,
full throttle toward heaven -
all the daily baggage
would fall away. Imagine
the size of my love then!
Broken open, cast to the air
like seed--
it would be mad love, my darling.

Beautiful! I'll carry it with me. Thank you, Karen.
Karen, you commented to my posting called "A dancer in the supermarket".
Saying that when you grow up you wish to be like me. That is an erratic comment. I wonder if you really knew me you would still say the same thing...
Erratic is descriptive. Maybe even apt... Hm, I kind of like it.
Listen, if I can pretend you are a hero, you can at least oblige me by pretending to be one :).
Your dilemma on the toilet made me laugh.
The helpful suggestions in the comments were actually funnier :)
Okokok, all unblocked now.
I was actually referring to the blocked roof drain!
But doesn't it feel liberating? I must admit that it does to me. So far for the psychological implications :)
