Umbilical exchange

Nick said something to me about a friend of his who did something to another friend. It's all so awkward for him because he likes them both, but he is closer to the friend who did the something, and it was this friend who brought Nicholas into the fold of the other friend. It's complicated.

But Nick is concerned that what his friend did will somehow reflect poorly on him, Nicholas.

Also, it's also going to be a detriment to the friend's housing situation, so I asked Nick, "What is he..."
Nick replied, "Dunno..."
I went, "Ok, You know, he can't..."
Nick said, "I know..."
I was like, "It's not that I don't..."
He said, "I know Mom."
I said, "And seriously, I want..."
Nick was like, "It's ok. I know.."
So I said, "And also, I don't want... well you know what I mean..."
He went, "Yeah, I know. He's not living here and I'm not moving in with him."

Royce came in in the middle of all this and said, "What?" I said to him, "Oh, we're having a conversation."

Royce looked blankly at me like, that's a conversation..?

aw ... it is so neat when conversations like that happen.
Sometimes Number Two son and I would be able to read each other's minds, but the tone was rather different. Like when he was 13 when we were going through airport security on our way to Disneyland. I saw an expression pass over his face and I knew what he was thinking, and I clapped a hand over his mouth and hissed, "don't even think of it!"
Afterward, he said, "why did you..."
I said "Because you were going to say the 'B' word -- like in 'bomb' just to see what would happen."
He said, "well ... sorta."
